We only hire licensed and insured technicians. Other important skills include knowing how to install garage doors, openers, and other electrical components. There is a certification available from the Canadian Door Institute.
An overhead door technician (ODT) is a recognized occupation under Alberta’s Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act. There are two levels of certification based on credentials and hours of training. ODTs are certified to install and maintain overhead doors, rolling steel doors, multi-blade doors, rubber roll-up doors, rolling steel fire doors, electric door openers, electric gate openers, and access control devices located in any residential, commercial, or industrial building.
Both levels of certification require completed of the overhead door technician course delivered by the Canadian Door Institute and passing the required exams.
